RICHARD'S BLOG

National Racehorse Week is a nationwide annual celebration of the racehorse and a chance to see first-hand the love, care and attention that goes into looking after them.

Born out of an idea in 2019 by Richard to create a single event that could be hosted by the racing industry, National Racehorse Week is celebration of the animals who power racing and provide entertainment for millions, whilst also providing the public with insight into the dedicated care that they receive.

In an experience like no other, racing yards up and down the country opened their doors for the inaugural event in September 2021 to show the public the fantastic lives that these magnificent animals lead.

We would have no hesitation in recommending Richard and all at Adlestrop whether as a first timer or an experienced owner.”

  • “What I like about Adlestrop is the way nothing is too much trouble for Richard or Joline to see that you enjoy ownership, and when visiting you are always made very welcome. The staff and horses are very happy and there is a lovely atmosphere. Owners are always kept very well informed as to the wellbeing of their horse, and given plenty of notice of when and where their horse may run. They are always welcome to visit. Also the social events are really good and there is always a very friendly group of people to socialise with.”

  • “What I like about Richard’s yard is the informality. I can pop in any time and see the horses in the yard or up on the gallops and it is fun following their progress throughout the year. I have also learned a great deal talking to Richard which has made a trip to the races much more enjoyable. The other owners are a sociable bunch and we enjoy their company.”

The team at Adlestrop are always welcoming and every owner is made to feel special. Meeting up with other owners at the regular gatherings is always good fun and Jo and the team make fabulous bacon butties which are always welcome after an early morning on the gallops watching and hearing Richard’s lively comments on the horses.”

  • I have known Richard for 30 years when he was Assistant to Henry Candy. His attention to detail is second to none and every horse is treated as an individual which isn’t always case in this day and age. The yard is run in a very professional manner and they are an absolute pleasure to deal with.

  • “What I like about being an owner at Adlestrop, is the personal touch you get from Richard and the team, the sense of fun that being involved in racing is really all about, and the knowledge that at a moment’s notice you can pop in to see the horses, go on the gallops, and actually feel part of a vibrant racing stable.”

    John Inverdale
  • “I have known Richard for over 20 years and Jo not much less. They always go the extra mile to make any visitor to the yard welcome and entertained. The rest of the team, led by Hannah and Danny, are always happy to talk about the horses or just racing in general. It is comforting to see how much each and everyone of them cares for the horses and how they treat them with the utmost respect."
