Delighted with Agent Argylle’s fourth at Chepstow on Wednesday in the 2 ½ mile handicap hurdle.  Given a fine ride by Johnny Burke, he travelled and jumped well into the straight before challenging from two out.  Johnny said he found the ground a bit on the sticky side but that he is a lovely horse and would certainly make a chaser in time.  He also recommended we stick to 2 ½ miles for the time being as although undoubtedly he will get further, on the right track he should be competitive over a similar trip.

On Tuesday I attended the funeral of our great friend Tot Calver (pictured).  Tot passed away at the age of 89 after sadly suffering with dementia.  Tot was a wonderful supporter of the yard having owned shares in Giovanna, Thornton Alice, Organdi, Beautiful People and was a valued member of the Adlestrop Club.

We went on many journeys together and and she kindly ensured that flowers in the office and the yard were ever present.  Widow of trainer Peter Calver, she had had a wonderful career in horseracing throughout her life and it was an honour to say a few words about her extraordinary contribution and dedication at the funeral service.  Tot will be remembered very fondly by all who knew her.

On Sunday I am once again a judge at Racing Welfare’s ‘Racing Come Dancing’ at Epsom.  Like last year, I will do my best to encourage all the wonderful participants and good luck to all.  The event is being live streamed so please do watch if you can: https://racingwelfare.co.uk/events-archive/racing-come-dancing/
