Elfride ran with promise in her first handicap at Exeter yesterday. Travelling and jumping well, she moved into contention with the leaders turning for home. The ground was heavy and would not have suited her ideally and I am sure she would appreciate some better ground. We look forward to her repaying her connection’s patience in the not too distant future.
I was unable to attend Exeter yesterday as I had the privilege of being asked to deliver John Hanmer’s eulogy at his funeral in Ardington, Oxfordshire. John was a great friend to many and was a consummate professional as a broadcaster, commentator and race reader.
Blessed with a wonderful brain and an excellent wit, the church in Ardington was packed with friend that go back many decades. Many of the great and good of racing were in attendance to say goodbye to someone greatly loved and respected.
John loved a quiz and I am delighted to say that this year’s Adlestrop Club Question of Sport Quiz will take place at the Cotswolds Club in Chipping Norton on 23rd February at 7pm. Details of the evening below. Please do come and support this enjoyable event, whilst raising money for a wonderful cause in Motor Neurone Disease Association.
