Yesterday I was delighted to attend the Heros student awards at their base near Wantage in Oxfordshire.  The Adlestrop Club have sponsored the awards for the last few years and all the members are delighted to be associated with such a special occasion.  Some fifteen students collected their awards from John Francome who kindly came along and is a patron of the charity.

It was also great to welcome some Adlestrop Club members who came along to support.

As a Trustee of the charity it is truly humbling to see the incredible progress some of the young people have made thanks to their association with horses. Once again emphasising how retired racehorses in particular can help people and vice versa.

Very pleased that Heros has been selected by a panel of experts from across the industry to be the new primary partner for British Horseracing’s official welfare charity, Retraining Of Racehorses.  They are helping with the provision of specialist care for horses at their first step out of racing.

Set up in 2006 by Grace Muir, the charity has rehomed more than seven hundred ex-racehorses and is building and impressive educational programme for young people within the facilities.

Yesterday’s awards ceremony was an example of so much that is good about the sport of horseracing and may such initiatives go from strength to strength.
