Tuesday 30th July, 2024

Many of the horses will be coming in off their holidays soon and are enjoying the warm weather.  We are doing the finishing touches to the yard as we prepare for the season ahead and we have lots of exciting young horses to look forward to.

The King George on Saturday had an easy winner in Goliath and the French trained gelding bolted up in a competitive field.  The winner has string holt which is an exaggerated movement of his hind leg and to the uninitiated his walk would appear to make it hard for him to gallop.  However try telling that to the other horses in the last furlong.  His in proves how idiosyncratic the thoroughbred is.

Glorious Goodwood is always a favourite week and looking forward to visiting the track on Thursday.  Like many I believe the racecourse is the most beautiful in the world – especially when the sun shines and the Sussex Downs are a wonderful backdrop to the theatre of colour that racing produces.

Some fascinating contests throughout the week and very much look forward to the Sussex Stakes tomorrow however it is sad that Rosallion is not quite himself and won’t be taking part.

Hopefully Robert Cooper will enjoy his last day of broadcasting at Yarmouth today.  ‘Roberto’ has been an extremely popular and entertaining contributor to the racing media for decades.  His love of the sport comes across so well whether it be Ascot or Brighton, Chelmsford or Chepstow.  For many years he has been quiz master at our annual charity ‘Question of Sport’ and we look forward to him doing so in 2025 without the pressures of having to rush back from a racecourse.

Very much looking forward to our annual charity cricket match at the Adlestrop ground on Sunday 18th August.  Please do come and support the event if you can – we are racing money for a great cause in a beautiful setting.
