Smile back ran a pleasing debut over hurdles finishing fifth in a competitive event at Huntingdon on Thursday She travelled a bit too strongly early on in the race but stayed on up the straight and will be suited by three miles eventually, however we will keep her to a shorter trip while she learns to settle. She jumps well and will hopefully have a successful chasing career in the future.
It was wonderful that her owners The Somedays Here Partnership – Eustace and Carol Theodore and Karen Anderson, were able to travel from the USA to watch her run. We look forward to them returning again next month to watch both Smile Back and their six-year-old novice hurdler Tech That back on the racecourse.
Elfride ran a pleasing race in the conditional jockeys handicap hurdle at Warwick on Friday. Jumping and travelling well with Harry Atkins onboard, she stayed on in the straight on ground that was too soft for her ideally and we look forward to finding a similar race on better ground in a few weeks time.
Bluenose Belle is not declared for either of her entries this week as thanks to recent rain the ground is too soft for her but hopefully she will have some options on better ground next week.
We are very pleased that Delphi Parkinson has gained her amateur rider licence having attended a course at the British Racing School in Newmarket last week. Delphi is an excellent rider and a valued member of our team at Adlestrop and we look forward to giving her some opportunities on the racecourse in the coming months.
Congratulations to all the finalists and winners at the Thoroughbred Industry Employee Awards which took place last night in York. Huge congratulations to Sally Lyons who so brilliantly steered National Racehorse Week over the last couple of years in winning the Community Award and we look forward to Sally continuing to making a positive difference to the sport in her new position with the Horse Welfare Board.
