Fighting Poet ran with distinction at Brighton on Thursday finishing third. Jason Watson reported that he travelled well to make his challenge two furlongs out but found the ground a bit on the fast side for him to be seen at his best. He will hopefully return to the track next Tuesday and we will enter him in both the mile and a quarter and mile and a half handicaps at the fixture he was successful at last year.
He appears to be more suited by a mile and a quarter as they go a stronger pace early on but we will see which of the options looks most favourable for him.
Today is the thirty-second anniversary of our first winner Stane Street at Newton Abbot, which was a very memorable day. It was a very enjoyable journey home with the winning owner, Jim Reade who was one of life’s great characters. Jim bred the legendary hunter chaser, Baulking Green who gave Captain Forster his first winner under rules. Stane Street was purchased out of a Stratford seller by Jim on Baulking Green Trophy day the previous year. Certainly plenty of water under the bridge since then and look forward to many more winners to come.
Looking forwarding to our annual Charity Cricket Match at Adlestrop on Sunday. It is in aid of Racing Welfare in memory of Luke Watson. It is always a fun day on one of the country’s most picturesque cricket grounds. Please do come along and support if you can. A Phillips XI including owners, Luke’s relations and jockeys past and present – Marcus Armytage and Finn Lambert, take on the local, in-form side.
We will be holding a charity raffle so please come along with cash if you can.
