Fighting Poet runs today in the 3.50pm at Brighton – a course he has run very well at in his last four races. Billy Loughnane once again takes the ride who has won on him previously. The ground will possibly be too soft for him on this occasion but he coped well enough on similar conditions when beaten just over a length over a further trip so fingers crossed. He will probably have a break after this run but he has given the Adlestrop Club a great deal of fun over the last few months.
A horse called Ricardo Phillips is also in the race, trained by my former boss H Candy who named him after me. Having spoken to him at Newmarket sales this morning, he informs me the horse might have even less talent than his namesake, so a forecast bet might not be sensible.
It’s great to be at Newmarket sales today as we look to increase our flat string for next season. It’s always good to meet up with owners and old friends as we all try to cope with the rather buoyant market. The intensive bidding of last week has transferred to this week as well but hopefully we will get lucky and be able to find one or two under the radar.
