Mattie Ross (pictured) runs in the 4.15pm at Southwell today – the mares handicap hurdle over three miles. Hopefully she will have come on for her recent run at Doncaster and the ground will not be too soft for her. She carries top weight but Finn Lambert rides claiming three pounds. She won well at Market Rasen last year on better ground and hopefully Mattie will give her patient syndicate plenty of fun this spring.
Mostly Mozart runs in the 6.30pm at Wolverhampton over course and distance he was placed at recently. He had trouble in running last time but hopefully will get back to form with promising apprentice Liam Wright onboard claiming five pounds.
Swift Jet is declared in the three miles maiden hurdle at Ludlow on Wednesday run at 2.30pm. He showed promise at Doncaster on his hurdling debut for us and it will be interesting to see how he copes with the step up in trip. Sam Twiston-Davies takes the ride and hopefully this handsome son of Jet Away will soon be rewarding the patience of his owners and chasing will certainly be his game.
Lizzie Rey also runs on Wednesday and heads to Doncaster for the three miles handicap hurdle run at 3.20pm. She was due to run at the course recently before the meeting was called off and hopefully the step up in trip and wind operation will bring about an improvement on her previous form. Finn Lambert rides.
Sad news of the death of Michael O’Sullivan following his recent fall. As ever the racing community comes together in such tragic circumstances and will no doubt support his family and friends throughout this extremely sad time.
A huge talent combined with an exemplary character, he will be remembered by the sport and his memory will emphasise how brave jump jockeys are in their daily lives. May he rest in peace.
