With the ground being very soft and meetings being called off, we haven’t had any runners recently as we are keen to avoid very bad ground for our novices. However we will hopefully have some runners towards the end of the week as they are entered on tracks that usually have more suitable ground in Taunton, Doncaster and Hereford.
We had a rather wet but useful work morning on Saturday where we were honoured to be joined by David Elsworth who had stayed over following our wonderful Desert Orchid evening the night before. The maestro had also joined me for evening stables on Friday which is certainly an experience I will never forget and it was very pleasing that he commented how well the horses looked in their coats.
I was rather keen to show him our four-year-old Norse Dancer filly as David trained her father. Delighted that he thought she was full of potential and we look forward to syndicating her in the future.
Many thanks to all who attended our Desert Orchid evening on Friday. Delighted to raise a fair about of money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association which is a cause close to David’s heart as his first Cheltenham Festival winner, Heighlin, was ridden by Steve Jobar who is unfortunately suffering from the disease.
The panel consisting of Colin Brown, Simon Sherwood D Elsworth and Stretch the dachshund, both fascinated and entertained a packed village hall with stories of their careers and the great grey. David brought along a couple of pictures of Dessie to auction for the cause and the stories from all three made an occasion to be remembered for many years to come.
The evening emphasised how much the racing community both love and respect racehorses and we look forward to the Adlestrop Club paying tribute to other equine favourites in the future.
