A beautiful sunrise this morning on the gallops for our work morning.

Lady Of Authority ran with great credit last night at Wolverhampton.  Being a course and distance winner, she enjoyed returning to the track and ran on very well in the final furlong to finish a good third, with jockey Georgia Dobie finding it hard to pull her up.  Hopefully we can find another suitable race for her and possibly step her up in trip and reward her very patient owners.

On Monday Tulane travelled well with Joe Fanning onboard until the final half mile when he stopped pretty quickly.  Having been so consistent there is obviously something amiss at present with him.  We will investigate and hopefully solve the problem and get him back in competitive condition.

Both runners won the ‘best turned out’ awards and looked in great order.  Well done to Hannah and Willow on doing an excellent job.

Very sad to hear the news of the passing of Lady Vestey.  I have known her for many years and she was one of my original owners and we had such fun together.  CeCe had a wonderful sense of humour and many talents.  An excellent judge of horses, she asked me to put a bet on for her on the Tote on Special Tiara in the Queen Mother Champion Chase, having viewed the horse in the paddock.  The horse duly made all and there was much laughter as the poor Tote man didn’t have enough money to pay us out.  Our thoughts and prayers are with her wonderful family.

Congratulations to Hollie Doyle on being a finalist in the Sports Personality of the Year Awards.  As stated many times before, Hollie is not only a brilliant jockey but an excellent example to all and there would be no finer winner.  I look forward to the whole of racing getting behind her for this prestigious award.

Also it is with great delight we can announce that four of us from Adlestrop Stables have reached the shortlist in this year’s Godolphin Stud and Stable Staff Awards.  A remarkable achievement and congratulations to:

  • Hannah Gregory – Leadership Award
  • Faisal – Rider/Groom Award
  • Joline Saunders – Dedication to Racing
  • Richard Phillips – Community Award

Also shortlisted is my old teacher from Witney college, Ellie Wright who is in the Stud Staff category.  Whilst Henry Candy’s Head Lad John Smith, also is shortlisted in the dedication award.

Good luck to all in what is an excellent initiative and an opportunity to celebrate the many wonderful people in our industry.
