Iron Horse has been declared in the 12.40pm at Doncaster tomorrow – the two and a half mile novice handicap chase. It will be his debut over fences and he has schooled well at home and hopefully he will take to the bigger obstacles, as he certainly has the size and shape to do so. Great that so many members of the Somedays Here Partnership are able to make it for his chasing debut.
Worked a few of the horses this morning and all went well. Our two new purchases arrived safely last night from Goffs Doncaster sales. They have settled in well and looking forward to getting to know them.
Dan Skelton made a good point about the handicapping system yesterday re his Marracudja going up eleven pounds for his run at Ascot on Saturday. He rightly states as an older horse it is unlikely he has improved to that extent but unfortunately the handicapping system does not allow much leeway for such decisions.
The job of a handicapper is not an easy one, however the principle of handicapping is very close to communism and we know that does not work. Handicapping horses is not just maths and as stated in the Racing Post yesterday, the current system needs to change.
