Wednesday 22nd July, 2020
A Wednesday work morning with some of the string stepping up their work and we are on target to have some runners in August.
A busy week of physio and dentistry thanks to Maggie Turner and Tash Seely. It’s far better to be a racehorse in lockdown than a human.
Yesterday it was great to welcome Keith Rogers, Jill Blanchenot and Mike and Ann Saunders to the yard. As members of the Beautiful People syndicate it was great to show them Beautiful People and Organdi. Keith has been a great supporter of us for many years and also has shares in several other horses, including promising Irish point-to-point winner Rossbeigh Strand.
Ann and Mike had kindly donated some of their mare’s winning prize money towards a couple of benches and a rose, to give the staff somewhere to sit in the sun during break times. We enjoyed sitting on them for a while on what was a beautiful day.
Great to hear restrictions for owners being at racecourses are now easing and the sooner this is safely done, the better for the whole sport. I am sure if everyone behaves sensibly there is no reason why going racing will not be as enjoyable as it ever was.
Pricewise yesterday made his tip for the St Leger going for William Haggas’s Al Aasy. With Irish Derby winner Santiago as favourite, as ever Ballydoyle have a strong hand. However my fancy would be Dawn Patrol who was an eye catching third in the Irish Classic for the O’Brien team and looks great each-way value at 11-1.
