Keep It Brief found the ground a bit too quick for him at Southwell yesterday but I’m sure once he has some softer conditions, he will be able to show his true colours.

Ocho Grande does not seem to share the same enthusiasm for racing as his syndicate and possibly he is more suited to the pony club than the jockey club and therefore we will seek a new career for him, as he has a good character and enjoys jumping.

We have made further entries for next week as it’s unclear how much rain is on the way but hopefully weekend conditions will suit all.

Great to hear the news that Lord Grimthorpe is to be chairman of the National Stud in Newmarket.  As a student on the stud course in the seventies, he is certainly aware of the importance not only of it’s stallion roster but also it’s diploma course which has given so many young people an opportunity to start out in the industry.

As an ex Witney College student myself, a few of us former students were thinking it may be a good idea to be more proactive about the accessibility of a career in the sport.

In my experience the industry has been very accessible to enthusiastic, hard-working young people.  With such excellent charities as Racing To School, hopefully we can get the message out to people who have not had a connection with horse racing that there are many career prospects within the sport.
