Good to step up the work today on yet another beautiful morning. It was great to welcome my brother Steven and family friend Geoff to the yard this morning.  ‘Bruv’ has a share in Present From Dubai who won twice for us last season and will hopefully carry on his winning run over hurdles and fences over the next few months.

An interesting but unsuccessful day at Doncaster sales yesterday having been underbidder on a few lots.  John Rosbotham and Norma Lyth joined me at the sales and our search for a Grand National winner continues.

John and I went to school together and we have both wanted to win the world’s greatest steeplechase since primary school at St Peters.  There is time yet.

Amused that lot 54 and 55 were catalogued next to each other.

So sad to hear of the passing of Pat Smullen.  I never met him but knowing many people who did, he was one class act.  The reaction to his fundraising cause from his fellow jockeys was testament to his immense popularity.

His skills were admired internationally and he was a credit to his profession and his life was cruelly cut short by the most evil disease.  We can only hope the monies Pat helped to raise will find a cure for others in the future.
