Having watched last night’s Panorama, whatever your views, without question seeing horses lives end in that fashion to any decent person, is quite simply abhorrent.  As many of us know owners, trainers and stable staff throughout Britain, spend much time and money ensuring that racehorses have a life well lived from cradle to grave.

Some journalism can be a force for good.  Let us hope the dreadful evidence that we viewed last night brings an end to such repulsive practices.

Hopefully the industry will now unite in ensuring that everyone in the sport has a duty to ensure that the lives of the animals that give us so much, are respected until their passing.

It is an opportunity for racing to develop a system that ensures that such scenes should never reoccur and as for the abattoir and the Food Standards Agency, they must be held accountable for their actions.
