Delighted with Iron Horse’s excellent run at Leicester yesterday. Given a fine ride by Tom Bellamy, he travelled well on the outer better ground, coming to challenge two out and only had the well handicapped winner in front of him. All connections have been very patient with him and hopefully this will be repaid over the coming months.
Yesterday David Elsworth announced his retirement from the training ranks. Two words, ‘legend’ and ‘genius’ are used prolifically these days, however of all the equine handlers who deserve such credits – he must be one of them. Great company and a great competitor, if you had a vote on the trainer’s trainer – he would be high up on the list and may he have a longer and happier retirement than he expects.
Very sad to hear of the passing of the wonderfully funny Jethro. He loved his National Hunt breeding and I had the pleasure of meeting him on several occasions including at Doncaster sales, where he treated all that had dinner with him to a private stand-up that will always be remembered by those that attended. The only thing he didn’t time right was his sad passing. May he rest in peace.
