Visited Newmarket on Tuesday and it was good to catch up with owner Ed Ware and others and the yearling sales.  Inevitably the average was down but fortunately Sheikh Mohammed was bidding with enthusiasm.  However there were quite a few despondent consignors and there will be a few tales of woe over the coming weeks as the sales season cranks up.

A cantering morning today following faster work yesterday, as we look forward to the proper jumps season starting very soon.  Thank you to everyone who has entered our Five To Follow Competition so far – keep them coming in.

Sad news this week that one of the yard’s great supporters and friends Eric Painting has died.  Many of you will know him having been born and bred in the village.

Along with doing many odd jobs around the yard, he was an active member of The Adlestrop Club and produced fantastic questions for our annual Question of Sport.  We had some great days together, including some wonderful days racing.

Hopefully when restrictions allow, we will think of a way of celebrating the great contribution Eric made to our lives.
