Keep It Brief came to challenge in the straight before fading a furlong out at Kempton last night.  It was a more competitive race than the one he won over course and distance recently and hopefully the handicapper will reassess him.  We look forward to going hurdling with him again in the autumn as he enjoys his jumping and will be suited by some soft ground.

We have entered Flying Dragon for next week at Nottingham.  We do not have many to run at present with the majority of the string getting fit for the autumn and a few recent winners having a late holiday, including Pop Mistress and Mattie Ross (pictured).

I did not go to Doncaster sales this week but am looking forward to going to the September sale.  It’s good to see the bloodstock industry code of practice being announced yesterday.  Anything that gives buyers more confidence must be welcomed.

I’ve enjoyed reading the Racing Post veterans feature this week with many of the more experienced members of the profession being interviewed.  It has been said many times that this is a game of survival and certainly encourages strong character.  Looking forward to reading Pam Sly’s article today as she is an undoubted legend of our sport.

Talking of which, Happy Birthday to Peter Easterby who is 92 today.  He has been associated with some great horses during his career and although quieter than his brother Mick, he is just as entertaining.
