Mrs Barnes (pictured) ran another race of great promise at Haydock yesterday in the mares novices hurdle, finishing second to a decent winner. She did not travel with her usual zest and more ease in the ground would probably help and with the sun coming out she just may be coming into season.
All in all, she looks a promising chaser for the future and hopefully Bob and Pauline Scott’s patience will be rewarded handsomely.
The old stagers Muthabir and Master Vintage had a few excuses for their performances with Mo not necessarily responding to his visor and Master Vintage not able to have his usual comfy lead.
We will see how they come out of the race but we look forward to them having more opportunities this spring before deciding on possible happy retirements for both.
Sheikh Hamdan who has sadly passed away, has made a huge contribution to the world of horseracing. All that dealt with him found him to be an incredibly decent, loyal, knowledgeable and humorous man whose love of the thoroughbred ensured a richness of success over several decades.
You can often judge people by those who surround them and the whole Shadwell team repaid his loyalty with top level success throughout. In the same way as Khalid Abdullah, Sheikh Hamdan’s legacy will pass on through generations in the stud book.
