Master Vintage jumped well at Wincanton today on ground that was faster than ideal. He is in great form and won best turned out but needs soft ground to be seen at his best.
Hopefully the handicapper will reassess him and we can find another race for him in a few weeks time.
Minella Whisper is declared at Huntingdon on Saturday in the 3 mile 1 handicap hurdle. A course and distance winner, he has been off for some time with a tendon injury but he looks in great condition and all being well he will be going chasing after this run. Hopefully the ground will be on the safe side and this outing will blow away a few cobwebs before starting his chasing career.
We have more runners and entries for next week as we look forward to getting more of the string out and about.
It was good to hear that the government has awarded racing forty million pounds in direct aid, mainly in the form of loans, as financial support for our industry. Covid has wreaked havoc with all and as Britain’s second largest spectator sport, it’s vital it is given every opportunity to recover.
The loss of spectators to our sport has obviously had a major effect on finances and let us hope all in the industry can recover as quickly as possible and that it will not be too long before spectators, especially owners, are allowed to return. Without them it’s like having an engine with no oil.
