Thursday 19th January

Just setting off to Ludlow to saddle Cosmic King in the 4.10pm.  A hot contest but hopefully he will show some promise on his hurdling debut, as he works nicely at home and appears to jump very well. He certainly has the size and scope to jump a fence one day but I’m sure he will appreciate better ground that he will have today.

Today is an easy day of cantering for the string, followed by their weekly weigh in.

We welcomed the Hepworths and the Baileys to the gallops.  Members of The Adlestrop Club, they enjoy their regular visits to the yard and pop into Huffkins in Stow afterwards for a bacon sandwich.  Near enough a perfect morning!

Very sadly yesterday, Lucky Thirteen fractured a leg on the gallops and had to be put down.  Obviously everyone involved with the horse is absolutely gutted, especially his owner Brighton goal keeper David Stockdale who has been so patient with him.

Having purchased him at Ascot sales and being placed in his first two bumpers, much patience has been shown.  He ran extremely well at Doncaster last week to come second in a handicap hurdle, finally getting conditions that suit him and was surely on the verge of getting his head in front.

Lucky Thirteen was very sweet horse and very much a favourite in the yard – there are some sad faces this morning, once again emphasising this job and sport is like no other.
