Some sad news
Very sad to report that Bertie Barnes had a fatal accident on Friday. It was a freakish incident and the only good news was that veterinary attention was on hand within minutes.
Bertie has given us great happiness over the last few season, especially with his two great victories at Kempton and Towcester earlier this year.
Having been purchased in Ireland as a three year old by Mick Barnes and myself, he also showed ability on the gallops and a great aptitude for jumping. Sadly his potential as a chaser will never be realised but of all the horses we have trained here at Adlestrop, he is certainly one that will never be forgotten.
Bertie’s ashes will be spread at the stables under a suitable memorial.
Our sympathies go out to all his connections, especially Mick who unfortunately had a fall at the weekend and is now recuperating in Gloucester Hospital.
