Off to Warwick today
Off to Warwick to saddle Totterdown and Celestial Magic. The latter has gone in the ground before but I am sure Totterdown would prefer a better surface. However there are very few options at present and hopefully he will continue to learn to settle.
Celestial Magic’s race is as competitive as ever but hopefully he will put up his usual, game performance. Danny Hiskett rides both.
A busy, rainy work morning but the string appear in good form and it was good to get some of the two-year-olds upsides.
Yesterday, I attended my first Trustees meeting at Heros – the racehorse rehoming charity based near Wantage in Oxfordshire. Grace Muir and her team have done a great job of rehoming many of Adlestrop’s former runners and they have found great and well deserved homes.
The charity is also developing an education programme in order to bring more people into racing from other parts of society. This can only be a good thing for the future of the sport.
I popped in to see Norman Francome on the way home. Norman, father of John is recovering from a recent hip operation following a fall.
If you wonder why J Francome is one of the greats, all you have to do is meet his father who is one of the kindest, most entertaining human beings you could wish to meet.
Not many 91 year-olds are bought an exercise bike but J Francome is determined his father should recover as quickly as possible. Thanks to his enthusiastic son and the facilities at Oaksey House, it won’t be long before Norman is up and running again soon.
