As anticipated Cosmic King did not like the ground at Huntingdon yesterday.  However Ian Popham was pleased with him and like I, he is convinced on better ground he will improve significantly.

Quiet on the runners front this week but have made an entry for Master Vintage at Market Rasen on Sunday.

Desert Joe was hoping the field would go around again in the charity race at Newbury on Saturday, as he was only just warming up as they approached the line.  He enjoyed himself though and will now have a happy retirement to the hunting field.  Rider Hannah Bishop raised an outstanding amount of money of £7825 for this year’s Greatwood cause and many thanks to everyone who contributed.

I was invited to the Greatwood lunch by owner Bunny Roberts – and a good time was had by all.  Guest speaker Giles Brandreth was extremely entertaining.

Very sad to hear of the death of Tristan Voorspuy.  Very sadly he was murdered in the troubles in Kenya.  I had the privilege of going on a riding safari with him some years ago.  He was a larger than life character, courageous and knowledgeable and a lover of Africa.

The time I spent with him on the Maasai Mara was one of the most special moments of my life and I’m sure I speak for everyone who joined him on those trips, that he is a man we will never forget.
