Secret Look has been declared for Wolverhampton on Wednesday in the 2.50pm. We have left off the cheek pieces and Tom Marquand rides. He did not enjoy the firm ground at Windsor last time and as he is a course and distance winner at Wolverhampton, hopefully he will put his best foot forward.
Delighted to have backed both the Oaks and the Derby winner having attended Epsom last week. Both were picks of the paddock, with the Oaks filly having a great walk, big ears and composure. Whilst the Derby winner stood out amongst the colts in the paddock and paid for the day.
I was kindly a guest of the Jockey Club on Friday thanks to owner Ed Ware. I asked actor Hugh Bonneville, a member of the Highclere syndicate, what part he thought Harry Herbert would have played in Downton. He came back with the perfect reply of Lady Mary.
I had a great possie for the paddock inspection of the Derby. The Queen had a long, happy chat with Lester Piggott, Joe Mercer and Willie Carson in the paddock. As ever, she never looked happier reminiscing about previous Classic victories.
The Derby crowd looked bigger than in past years and thanks to Poundland Hill, the course looked like the good old days. Long may it continue.
Sad to hear of the passing of trainer Dandy Nicholls. Dandy was always good company and I enjoyed his directness enormously. A wonderful horseman and undoubtedly the ‘sprint king’.
