Back to more clement weather and the horses are loving it as the majority munch away on the spring grass. In these troubled times, Racing Welfare are a great help to all those within the industry and racing is very lucky to have such a charity to support us.
Well done on their excellent initiative of the ‘Furlong Factor’ – a singing competition for those within racing. I thought about entering myself but whipped round in the end as I thought ‘Summer Holiday’ was not a very appropriate choice. There would have been stiff competition as there is much talent amongst the racing fraternity.
Well done to all those that have taken part in the heats so far and we look forward to the final on Saturday.
Yesterday’s ‘Luck On Sunday’ saw yet another entertaining interview with trainer Roger Charlton. Always enlightening and charmingly straight talking, he spoke on behalf of many trainers at this difficult time. At present his has the favourite for the 1000 Guineas, Quadrilateral. At present the BHA have plans to run the race at the beginning of June and Roger stated it would be perfect timing for her.
With plans for the first four Classics to be run a month later than normal, I believe this can only be of benefit to the horses involved as although weather dependant, I believe these Group ones are always run too early in the season.
Well done to Josh Stacey for organsing a fantastic racing quiz last night on Twitter. He persuaded many of the great and good of racing to put fifty fairly difficult questions to a Twitter audience. All donations to NHS charities. He’s doing it again at 8pm for those that fancy a go. I got 34 this week thanks to some lucky guesses.
