Mighty Elsa ran a fine race to finish second at Plumpton yesterday with Tom Cannon onboard.  Although the ground was officially soft, it rode a lot better than that and I think the mare appreciated the better ground like many of her relations.

Owner breeder Steven Smith has been very patient with her and I trained her grandmother and her mother for him.  Her grandmother Mighty Phantom was a useful hurdler and was Steven’s first horse.  Breeding from her led him to ultimately own Hunscote Stud which has done so well in the last few seasons and I know both of us will get an enormous thrill to see Might Elsa win over hurdles and fences.

Timetobenefit once again faded despite a recent wind op and having tried valiantly to get her to win for us, she may well now have to be rehomed.  She is a lovely mare and will give someone a lot of fun.

Unfortunately Ludlow is off tomorrow therefore Robin Des Smoke is unable to make her debut for us in the bumper.  Hopefully we can find something for her next week as we are very much looking forward to running her, having shown promise in the Irish point-to-point field.

Very sad news of the death of trainer Zoe Davison following a long and courageous battle with cancer.  She was always a bubbly character and came from a great racing dynasty.  How poignant she had a double at her local track Plumpton yesterday before passing away.  I am sure her family will continue with the same enthusiasm and skill over the coming seasons.

Close friend Simon Clare wrote a wonderful tribute to her in the Racing Post today.   Please do read it if you can HERE.
