Both Picanha (pictured) and Tulane ran respectably on Saturday.

Picanha ideally wants softer ground and a bit further and will no doubt improve for the experience.  Danny reported that after he was hampered at the third he did not travel as well and although in contention turning for home he was outpaced up the straight.  However the team had a memorable day and Picanha looked wonderful in the paddock and won the ‘best turned out’ prize for Faisal.   We look forward to stepping him up in trip and undoubtedly he is a horse of promise who we look forward to going chasing with.

Tulane again ran a brave race but did not appreciate the step back in trip having only raced a few days previously.  Jonny Peate reported that understandably, he was not able to get such an easy lead on this occasion but stuck on well despite being headed in the straight and was beaten less than two lengths by the winner.  Because of the conditions of the race, we had to give it a go but look forward to upping him in trip again for his next outing.

We have declared Iron Horse at Leicester on Wednesday in the two and a half mile handicap hurdle.  He ran well over course and distance in December and hopefully Danny Hiskett’s three pound claim will help on this occasion.  It is a competitive event but hopefully his owner/breeders will be rewarded for their patience.
