Off to Ludlow today to saddle Mattie Ross (pictured) in the mares bumper at 4.50pm. A home-bred of Bob and Pauline Scott’s – she has been leased by the fantastic Zara Syndicate headed by Guy Butchers. Hopefully we will find out a bit about her today in what looks a competitive race. I am sure she will give the syndicate plenty of fun over the coming seasons.
Once again a busy and fascinating weekend of flat racing, with the remarkable Jim Bolger training the first and second home in the Irish 2000 Guineas. It has been said many times before but this unique individual with iron faith, has achieved so much not only as a trainer but also as human mentor. Jim’s influence on both equine and human will live on for decades.
Sad to hear of the passing of another fascinating human in Barney Curley. Although I never met him, I knew many who had. To make a great impression on people is inevitably difficult but Barney Curley’s life did exactly that and his extraordinary and dedication to good causes will never be fully known. He was certainly more of a saint than a sinner.
