A very pleasing work morning on Saturday as the string get nearer to the point of getting back on the track. It was great to have Will Kennedy in to ride out a couple of lots.
Adlestrop Stables was one of the first yards he rode out at and I have known him for many years. A complete professional, hopefully we will be able to give him some opportunities on the track this coming season.
It was great to welcome owners Dave Mahon and Martin and Sue Harvey to see Rossbeigh Strand, Present From Dubai, Lesser and Run Rosie Run go through their paces.
A wonderful days racing at Ascot despite the ground. Well done to Kingy on winning his first Group race. As previously stated, Hollie Doyle is one of the best things to happen for racing for years – once again proving she is as good as any. Let’s hope she and Tom Marquand stay together for years and become the golden couple of our sport.
An excellent insight into Hollie’s life in yesterday’s Racing Post with those that know her best emphasising her work ethic and grounded attitude. These gifts are common to most champions and let’s hope her career continues to be exemplary.
As they say, racing is a funny old game. John Oxx announced his retirement from the training ranks recently. Widely respected he has trained winners at the highest level.
I have spoken to John on occasions and I like many others have found him to be incredibly polite, honest and generous with his time. If had a pound for every time someone told me that John Oxx was a complete gentleman, I’d be a millionaire several times over. May he enjoy many years of retirement.
