A very hot weekend and we are exercising the horses as early as possible. The horses doing faster work went out nice and early on Saturday followed by a nice cold shower. All the string are progressing well and many have commented on how good they are looking – long may that continue.
It was great to welcome owner Tom White to the yard on Saturday to view Methodtothemagic. He has a share in this five-year-old mare who has shown promise in point-to-points and we look forward to her going hurdling this season. She has really strengthened and developed over the summer and we look forward to her realising her potential this season and next.
Great to welcome owner Chris Newport this morning (pictured) to see his mare Blue Hour Bay who he shares in a syndicate of friends. By Leading Light, she is a half sister to some decent types including Barney Dwan. Again she has physically improved for her summer rest and having shown promise in the spring, she looks to have an exciting career ahead of her.
Another fascinating weekend of flat racing and the quality comes thick and fast week after week. Jessie Harrington looks to have an exciting colt in Lucky Vega who won yesterday’s Phoenix Stakes. The trainer is a living legend and a fine horse woman who is proving to be a top-class dual-purpose handler given the right ammunition. 16-1 for the 2000 Guineas does not look a foolish investment at this stage.
Sad to hear that racing in Jersey is under threat due to the pandemic. This will not be the only course whose finances will be hit in these extraordinary times. However, other racecourses have income from media rights etc, whereas the unique track in Jersey does not.
The Adlestrop Club had a visit there a few seasons ago and much enjoyed the experience and we should do everything we can to make sure that racing continues on the Channel Islands. They are crowd funding at present and any donations I know would be gratefully received. Hoping all goes well and we are able to visit again very soon.
