I was very privileged to attend the Aintree Grand National on Saturday as a guest of owner Alan Halsall.  A fantastic and memorable race with my paddock pick One For Arthur, being a popular success for Scotland.  Hopefully a great boost for Scottish and Northern racing who add so much to the jumping game.  A fine waiting ride and a story worthy of the great race.  With Yanworth and Finian’s Oscar supporting on the card, I’ve never seen the event in better shape and long may it continue.

Quite rightly it was decided to put horses first after the race by washing them down in the hot weather.  Perhaps next year a parade of the winner at the same time as the presentation is made would be the perfect solution.

I stayed up to watch the Masters last night for another popular victory with Sergio Garcia finally winning a major.  With it being Seve Ballesteros’ 60th birthday, there is no doubt that him upstairs had something to do with such a fitting result.

With the ground drying out, we have a few entries this week but will probably need rain in order to take them up.  Plans for runners next week are possibly too late to challenge Henderson.
