Madame Ritz declared for Southwell

Madame Ritz is declared at Southwell on Thursday in the five furlong maiden.  She showed promise on her debut at Wolverhampton in December and it will be interesting to see if she can handle a different surface on this occasion.  She appears in good form at home and Joe Fanning will ride.

There are a few in the race with decent form but hopefully she will put up a good show for The Firebirds.

A cold morning but the sun was out as many of the string had a morning of cantering. The ground conditions looks pretty awful at most courses at present and the forecast does not look good. Hopefully things will improve towards the end of next week when we will have a fair few entries.

I was sad to hear of the death of former trainer Roger Curtis who I have known for many years and was one of the good guys.

Pricewise looks at the Queen Mother Champion Chase and has chosen Yorkhill at 6-1.  Hope he is right as he is in my horses to follow list.  There is a bit of a cloud over others in the race but I still think last year’s winner Special Tiara, on good ground has each way prospects at 20-1.
