Jockey Club serves a useful purpose

Celestial Magic is declared at Haydock tomorrow in the 11.50am. Danny Hiskett rides him in the conditional jockeys handicap hurdle and although he probably prefers better ground and a bit further, it is a good starting point having had a break. He was very consistent last season and the handicapper reacted accordingly, however he appears in good form and jumps well.

Yesterday afternoon Brian Duckett and I went to visit owner/breeder Sue Welch at her stud farm. It was great to see our mare Giovanna, who sadly this year is not in foal but has produced four offspring already. Sue has bred many winners over the years and it is always good to catch up with her. We are looking forward to running her chaser, Speed Demon at the end of this month.

Much controversy over the Jim Best case in the papers and although many unsatisfactory things have come out of it, you can’t help thinking that although the old Jockey Club had many faults, it served a very useful purpose.
