Gold Cup Day

The ground was as bad as it gets at Towcester yesterday.  Celestial Magic was beaten two lengths by the winner in a blanket finish having stayed on from the second last.  Perhaps a step up in trip will help him and a few pounds off from the handicapper would also not go amiss.

Sheelbewhatsheebe travelled upsides the leader for much of the race before being unable to quicken in the ground up the straight.  Not the biggest of mares, she probably found it all too much up the straight and would prefer to come off a stronger pace when ground conditions permit.

Both seem fine this morning and hopefully the exertions will not take too much out of them.

At Cheltenham yesterday Shattered Love thankfully made up for Any Second Now’s run earlier in the week and was one of my rare ante-post bets.  Unfortunately Yanworth was unable to quicken in the straight off what was an ordinary pace.  Laurina looks an absolute machine and looks as though she could win a champion hurdle.

Today’s Gold Cup looks open but as ever, looks fascinating.  Hopefully the ground won’t be too soft for Redicean in the Triumph as he is my charity bet at Festival previews.
