A drizzly but exciting Gold Cup morning here at Adlestrop Stables. A combination of cantering and schooling for the string as we make yet more entries for next week, to give horses as many options as possible with the ground potentially drying out.
We decided to give Chepstow a miss with Lesser on Sunday and the impressive bumper winner will head to Wetherby on Tuesday for his hurdling debut.
Once again it was a spectacular day of racing at Cheltenham yesterday with some memorable performances, especially for horses I’ve been tipping all year yet failed to back. Chantry House and Allaho to name but two.
The most sporting man of the week without question is Jonathan Moore, who stood down from riding Flooring Porter on the morning of the race due to injury, knowing he could not do his beloved horse justice. He recommended Danny Mullins who did a wonderful job in riding the six-year-old to victory. Jonathon may not have won a Grade 1 yesterday but it was a Grade 1 performance in sporting conduct and may he be rewarded a thousand fold for his selfless gesture.
Rachael Blackmore’s form continues and she is a fantastic ambassador for the industry. It would be a wonderful result if either Rachael or Bryony could win the blue riband today and I have been an A Plus Tard fan for some time.
The fields look rather large and competitive to my eye, so will just hopefully sit back and watch jump racing at it’s very best. Safe home all.
