Friday 13th January
On our way to Huntingdon with the course passing an early inspection. Sedgefield is off, therefore Ian Popham will ride both Arctic Chief and Time Wise. I am sure both horses would appreciate better ground but it will be good to get Arctic Chief out on the course again having been off with a leg injury and I’m sure Time Wise will benefit from the experience.
We have declared Celestial Magic for Warwick tomorrow in the opening novice handicap hurdle. He has top weight but Danny Hiskett will take five pounds off. He ran well at Haydock and hopefully he will put up another good show tomorrow.
Having given my Champion Hurdle tip on Petit Mouchoir, I think the 12-1 Nichols Canyon looks a stonking each way bet in the Stayers Hurdle. Now he has learned to settle he is crying out for a trip and ran very well at the Festival a couple of years ago over two and a half miles having pulled far too hard in the race. It will be interesting to see him step up in trip.
In the Gold Cup, if Cue Card were to run he still looks each way value but the big price on offer is Many Clouds at 40’s. Any horse that wins the National carrying top weight is a class act and now he has had a wind op, I’m sure he will run a big race should he take his chance.
