Three runners tomorrow at three different meetings. Berkeley Barron runs at Doncaster in the three mile handicap hurdle and Ian Popham rides. He’s been off the course for a while due to a hind leg fracture but hopefully this will be a suitable come back run, as on his last outing for us at Newbury he was a good fourth in a handicap chase.
Muthabir runs in the 2 ½ mile handicap hurdle at Huntingdon – similar conditions to when he won on the course in December. Once again Richard Johnson rides and Muthabir appears in good form. He ran well at Kempton on Boxing Day and we hope he will put up a good show but it is a competitive event.
Beautiful People steps up in trip at Taunton in the 3 mile novice handicap hurdle with Danny Hiskett onboard. The ground should suit her and it should be interesting to see how she runs if she gets the trip.
This morning Dr George Wilson rode out for us. An exercise physiologist from Liverpool John Moores University, George is due to ride in a Hunter Chase next month and was getting in some practice on the gallops and schooling ground.
Hannah Bishop also came to ride Desert Joe in preparation for the Greatwood Charity race at Newbury on the 4th March.
Very sad news of the passing of Christopher Mordaunt. I defy anyone to find a more charming, likeable man in racing. He was the senior jumps handicapper until his retirement in 1999. A handicapper who was fair and efficient and had a unique understanding of the sport from many angles. God bless him.
