With the warm weather and stiff competition, we have given Market Rasen a miss with Iron Horse and hopefully he will take up one of his options next week. Apparently there is a bit of rain on the way which would help and we have a few entries for him and others next week.
Delighted to attend Lambourn Open Day yesterday. On a beautiful day, the village was crammed full of racing enthusiasts seeing horses at their very best. Having lived and trained in the area for many years, it was good to return and see so many old friends.
The organisers did a fantastic job and racing cannot do enough of good PR such as this to emphasise the welfare of racehorses if paramount in all our minds.
Delighted to help with the commentary of the camel racing, which was won decisively by AP McCoy who also won the show jumping. He’d like to thank Dave Roberts for selecting both mounts.
As ever, the stoic commentator was Merrick Francis, whose father was renowned for the written word. Merrick’s wonderfully entertaining commentary throughout the day emphasised his gift for the spoken word and Alan Partridge could not have done a better job.
Congratulations to Hunscote Stud on winning the fillies race on all weather championship day yesterday. Owner Steven Smith has invested a lot of time and money into the stud and it was great to see him rewarded with Heavenly Holly’s win under a fantastic ride from Ryan Moore. We look forward to the Stud going from strength to strength.
A happy Easter to you all.
