Off to Ludlow today to saddle Big Fiddle and Stoney Cross. They didn’t have much rain there so hopefully the ground will be okay.
We were able to do some faster work this morning now that the snow has gone away. The string are fresh and well following lots of cantering last week.
Delighted to have come away with a trophy from last night’s West Berkshire Racing Club Quiz at Newbury racecourse. The Club have put this on for many years and it is always great to support the event.
This year, we had two new team members in owner Ally Ainslie and Jimmy McCarthy. They both joined myself and team regular John Hanmer in what could only be described as an anorak’s paradise for racing knowledge.
As ever, short-term memory was poor was lacking but Hanmer came into his own in the fifties and sixties round. Whilst when it comes to pedigrees, Phillips is your ‘chum.’
The Racing Post team headed by Lee Mottershead won the ‘Golden Anorak’ trophy while the Phillips team won the ‘Silver Anorak’ comp.
Looking forward to next year already.
