Off to Lingfield to saddle Golden Deal in the 12.50pm.  She has been off the course for sometime as she has been on the weak side but she has now strengthened up nicely.  She has always shown ability at home and although this is a competitive event, we are hoping that she will put up a good show under jockey Rab Havlin.

It was great to attend yesterday’s HWPA Awards in London.  I travelled there with Nigel Twiston-Davies and Alastair Down on what was an amusing journey.

Delighted for Alastair to win his fifth ‘Journalist of the Year’ Award.  All agree that he is simply the best.

His acceptance speech rightly pointed out that in these times of technology and online betting, these days racing still enjoys the written word with humour.

Many congratulations to all the other winners, especially Richard Pitman who received the George Ennor Trophy for Outstanding Achievement for being one of racing’s great guys, both in the saddle and in front of the camera.

Luke Harvey hosted the event and it was his finest hour – there was laughter from start to finish.  Especially when he told International trainer of the year, Charlie Appleby, “A few years ago, nobody had ever heard of you.”  To which Appleby replied, “I’ve known you for a long time as when I worked for Jackie Retter, I had to put up all the hurdles you knocked down.”
