Beautiful People found it all too fast and furious at Sedgefield yesterday.  Hopefully the handicapper will reassess her and I am sure a bit more time between races and a step up in trip would be more to her liking.

Instead of making the journey to Sedgefield (even Tony Blair didn’t do that), I was kindly invited by owner Lizzie Prowting to our annual visit to Bucks County Show.

Lizzie and I always have great fun at this event and it was wonderful to see her Annacotty win the ROR show class ridden by her racing manager Hannah Bishop.

Annacotty looked wonderful and was a worthy winner.  It was a great double as Lizzie’s Rich Buddy won the same event last year.  Sadly ‘Buddy’ recently passed away after a long and happy life.  Let’s hope there are many more victories to come for Annacotty.

Very sadly one of Beautiful People’s owners and long-standing supporter of the yard, Irene Rogers, passed away yesterday morning.

Irene’s first venture into ownership was with Laazim Afooz who gave us many great days and Irene has had many other successes on the track since.

Irene was very worthily nominated for a Lester last year for her incredible work with the Professional Riders Insurance Scheme.  She was responsible for the scheme for many years and in the process, became an extremely valued member of the racing community.

Irene’s incredible courage and humour has shone through over the last few months since she was diagnosed with her dreadful disease.  She was blessed to have a fantastic family around her, led by her remarkable husband Keith who was with her every inch of the way.

On my last visit to Irene her delightful granddaughter Sophie, drew a lovely picture of a horse with a smiling trainer and it takes pride of place in my office today as I remember with great fondness, the life of Irene Rogers.

May she rest in peace.
