A visit from Sue Welch

Minella Whisper was entered at Huntingdon tomorrow but will now head to Doncaster next Friday.  It was good to welcome Sue Welch this morning to see her five-year-old mare, Stoney Cross, go through her paces on the gallops.  She is a well-bred daughter of Sulamani from one of Sue’s great families and hopefully she will be yet another home-bred winner for Sue.

Well done to Michael Owen for putting up a great performance in the charity race at Ascot today.  I am sure the publicity received will be a bonus to the sport and the more people that love this game and want to get involved, the better.

Very pleased to be a guest of SIS yesterday at the 21st Sir Peter O’Sullevan Charity lunch.  The recipient of this year’s Award was the great sport journalist Hugh McIlvanney.  Hugh is one of the great wordsmiths and also delightful company and it was an emotional afternoon for him and many attending.  A great friend of Sir Peter, he gave the great commentator’s eulogy at his memorial service and would very much have agreed with the Award winner.

Nearly five hundred attendees were treated to an entertaining afternoon of Rory Bremner and J Francome as auctioneer and both had the crowd in raptures.  A great deal of money was raised for some of Sir Peter’s favourite causes and it’s a testament to the great man himself and all his many friends that the lunch continues to be such a success.
